Individual Advocacy

Having some difficulty with accessing services? Need a hand along the way? Individual Advocacy can offer the support and help you need to solve some of those tough problems. It can help you stay in charge of your life by offering support and information. The ILRC will advocate with you but never for you.

The Individual Advocacy service can help sort out difficulties you might have with any of the following issues:

  • housing
  • income support benefits
  • communication
  • abuse
  • financial problems
  • Canada Pension Plan disability benefits
  • human rights
  • Workers Compensation
  • home support services
  • transportation
  • education
  • health & rehabilitation treatment
  • educational supports
  • disability related accommodations at work or school
  • anything else that's getting in your way!

The ILRC can help you find your way through the maze of programs, jargon, regulations, and paper work. We can also help you develop skills that can keep you in control, such as:

  • understanding your rights
  • problem solving
  • understanding appeals processes
  • managing home supports
  • self-advocacy
  • negotiation
  • communication

Here are a few resources that people access frequently within the Individual Advocacy program:

Please get in touch with Penny Abbott if you require assistance in any of these areas.
