Full Steam Ahead

Are you interested in career exploration? Want to go to work or start a small business? Maybe you're wondering about updating your skills or continuing your education? We can help.

Full Steam Ahead is an employment and career exploration program for people with disabilities. The new coordinator is Stephen Quinn.

We believe and practice Independent Living in the Full Steam Ahead program People are making choices, taking risks, and controlling their own career directions. You can also explore adaptive technology at the ILRC, and how it can help your career.

Full Steam Ahead participants have an active role in our career program, and give input on the program on a daily basis.

If you have a disability, what can we offer you? We can offer you support, encouragement, and information. We can also help you meet other people with disabilities who are exploring their careers.

There is no structured program because you create an individual program based on your goals and what you want to do.

People ask many questions when they become a participant in the Full Steam Ahead program. We can help you with questions like:

  • How can I make a new resume or update my old one?
  • What is the best way to do a cover letter?
  • What do I need to know when I am job searching?
  • How do I get information about starting a business?
  • What is the best way to do an interview?
  • How do I talk to employers about my skills and talents?
  • How do I learn more about computers?
  • Can I get help to talk to employers about jobs?
  • How do I figure out what career is best for me?
  • Where do I get funding for education?
  • Where do I get funding for courses in college or university?
  • How do I get the equipment needed in the workplace that is right for my disability?
  • How do I ask an employer to accommodate my disability in the workplace?
  • How do I get the equipment needed to go to college or university?
  • What are my rights in the workplace as a person with a disability?
  • Where else can I go for help?
