Adaptive Technology

Adaptive Technology (AT) has become very popular at the ILRC. People who use it are able to overcome obstacles that would otherwise prevent them from using a computer or accessing the Internet.

The Adaptive Technology service is available due to support from the Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment (www.hrle.gov.nl.ca/hrle/).

In the ILRC CAP site, we have a wide range of computer hardware and software all in a fully accessible environment. Anyone can come in and try out any piece of equipment to see what works best for them. Our AT Coordinator has a lot of experience with helping people use the equipment and finding ways to own it themselves.

We currently have a whole bunch of exciting adaptive technology and mainstream technology including:

  • large screen monitor
  • text enlarger program
  • height adjustable workstation
  • Dragon Dictate (voice input program)
  • JAWS (voice output program)
  • ergonomic chairs
  • IBM Home Page Reader
  • digital keyboard
  • touch screen monitor
  • Zoom text
  • Juliet Braille printer
  • Kurzweil Reader
  • Joust2 Sip and Puff
  • adaptive keyboards
  • digital cameras
  • printers
  • scanner
