Adaptive Technology (AT) has become very popular at the ILRC. People who use it are able to overcome obstacles that would otherwise prevent them from using a computer or accessing the Internet. The Adaptive Technology service is available due to support from the Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment (www.hrle.gov.nl.ca/hrle/). In the ILRC CAP site, we have a wide range of computer hardware and software all in a fully accessible environment. Anyone can come in and try out any piece of equipment to see what works best for them. Our AT Coordinator has a lot of experience with helping people use the equipment and finding ways to own it themselves. Research and Adaptive Technology In 2005, the ILRC partnered with Michelle Murdoch and Dr. Diana L. Gustafson (Memorial University of Newfoundland) to complete a research project entitled Women with Disabilities and Adaptive Technology in the Workplace: Participatory Action Research and Applied Principles of Independent Living.
