Building Expansion Project DID YOU KNOW. * Over 12% of the population of Newfoundland and Labrador are people with disabilities * Disability rate and severity increase with age * In excess of 30% of people with disabilities report as having two disabilities or more (Source: Statistics Canada PAL 2001; Roeher Institute 2004) We Are Growing!! The Independent Living Resource Centre (ILRC) provides programs and services designed by and for people with all types of disabilities. The ILRC has a twenty-six year history of developing and delivering services in an accountable and credible manner. Our centre is well known and respected provincially and nationally for the progressiveness and effectiveness of our service delivery. The ILRC is recognized for expertise in the practice of individual choice, dignity of risk and consumer control for all people with disabilities. Volunteers are the backbone of our centre. We currently have over 160 active volunteers providing a wide variety of services and events. The ILRC is the only cross disability resource centre in the province that is accredited under the national organization Independent Living Canada (formerly Canadian Association of Independent Living Centres (CAILC)). The organization has grown steadily over the past decade. In 1998 people with disabilities requested over 1,800 services and supports. These requests have grown to exceed 23,000 in 2007. Our building expansion initiative will help ensure that we can continue to provide the best services possible to our community that will allow extra space to meet our growing needs. Our dream is to build a bigger and better Independent Living Resource Centre for everyone who accesses our programs and services.
